Frequently Asked Questions

What is it about ? I am a Lego Technic builder, all the creations displayed on my website or on my YouTube channel is creation from my own (including design, looks, functions and instructions).

Q : Can I buy this from you ?

A : Yes you can, on a selection of available product, either on Mochub, or Buildamoc. See the creation for sale page here.

Q : Can you built a copy for me ?

A :  I usually create a lot of instructions with the bill of material (free one of for sale depending of amount of needed work), therefore you can check your parts and buy the missing parts to build a copy using rebrickable.

Q : Can you make building instructions ?

A : Yes I can and usually I will. Nevertheless, if the moc is more than 6-month old, there is no chance that I make the building instructions because the moc is probably taken apart.

Q : Can you send me more pictures / video about a creation ?

A : No, all data are available on my website, picture, video on YouTube, building instruction, I don’t hide anything. If it is not on my website, there is no more !

Q : How many parts do you have?

A : You can watch my collection here, it is only composed of few sets, that is why I can’t keep all creations assembled. My whole collection is packed into different metal case plus a tyre box which you can watch here and now how I sort it.

Q : I can’t find instructions !

A : When a post is tagged with “building instructions”, the building instructions are published or are going to be published. In any case, you will find the building instructions at the end of the post with this layout :

  • Displayed photo with a gallery
  • Sometimes a link to download a high definition PDF
  • A button to buy a pro-looking or free instructions  (you will receive the PDF after completing the form)

I have planned to gather all building instructions together on my website (some instructions are only available on brickshelf). In order to stay tuned to my creations and the available building instructions, you can follow me at the Nico71’s Facebook Page.

Q : What software do you use to create instructions ?

  • Ldcad to create the CAD file to get ready the steps and rotation step
  • Lpub3D to design the instructions
  • Some tools like Paint.net, gimp or PDF creator to finalize the instructions

Note : you have to install the Ldraw library of Lego parts here before (Folow this link to get the ldraw all in one installer and follow the step ion the page)

As you can see, I use many software, that is why it takes a lot of time to create professional building instructions. Sometimes I make a photo sequence instead of professional instructions.

Q : Can you build something for me ?

A : At time I build for professional company or non-profit organization, you can contact me for special request. I have ever worked for company as written in the reference page and for some others under NDA, mostly for designing models of industrial products (machines, sculptures, vehicles…). The Lego creations are good for conclusive and didactic products therefore don’t hesitate to contact me for special request.

Q : Can you give me some tips to built Lego stuff  ?

The best advice I can give you is to observe and do research about what you want to build (Google, Wikipedia, forum). Then, try and re-try with your bricks. Build official Lego set (or moc with instructions) is also a good exercise to learn about Lego building.

Q : What is this advertisement on your YouTube account ?

A : Since February 2010, I was invited to join the partner program from YouTube. It enables me to have partner’s options such as custom header, custom banner and get paid from the advertisement on my video. Consequently, some ads appear on my videos but, it helps me to have some money to update my website and develop my work.

Q : Why do you sell instructions ?

A : I sell my building instructions because it requires lot of work to get, including CAD model, editing, rendering plus publishing. As It is my work, I can not sell them for free, except for very small build. You can see them as a building and playing extension for your Lego sets. Rather than buying a new Lego sets, why not building something different with your owned collection ? This is what I propose.

Q : How does it works regarding buying instructions ?

A : After your payment, you will receive the link to download the instructions by email. Please check the spam box and be patient to receive it. If you have trouble to download your copy of the PDF after payment or open the document, do not make a paypal dispute, please contact me using the contact form. The link to download the instructions expires within 48h, please go to the Purchase History if you lost your instructions (work only on the same IP you have made the purchase). If you have hit the download limit or do no find the download link, please contact me using the contact form. Note that the model and instructions are copyrighted, you can print it, but not copy or distribute.

Q : Is it possible to buy building instructions without credit/debit card on Paypal ?

A : Yes, we can proceed by Iban or cheque for French customers. Please contact me using the contact form, and give me the following information : Complete name, email, adress, country and wanted instructions.

Q : There is a difference between the list of parts in the instruction and on rebrickable, which one is correct ?

A : It is possible that bill of material in the instructions have minor errors. If the instructions are old, I can not rework it (lost the file of lost the version of editing software), but I always keep up to date the rebrickable inventory. Therefore, please use the rebrickable inventory as a reference for bill of material. And please give me feedback if there are errors on it on the comment section of the creation.

Q : How does it works regarding buying complete creations ?

A : By using the mochub or buildamoc service, it enables you to buy my creations with genuine Lego parts and PDF building instructions by email. The price is high because sourcing from bricklink part by part, there is nothing I can do for this. After your payment, you will receive your package after and thanks to that, building one of my creation and support my work. You can see the creations for sale on nico71.fr here.

Q : I saw Nico71’s creations for sale on Amazon, Ebay, Aliexpress, are they official retailers ?

Mochub and Buildamoc are the only official retailer for Nico71’s Creations, which ensure you to get genuine Lego parts, helps and quality service. The other stores who sell my lego creations are not authorized and have simply pirated my creations, they mostly use also fake Lego parts. Buying such fake Lego creations, is encouraging piracy, infringe law of intellectual property (from me and Lego Brand), and make my business non-viable. Please refer to this page to spot the fake Lego.

Hello Nico! I appreciate your work, and I was wondering if eventually there will be a way to view only the pro building instructions. That would be greatly appreciated, but if it isn’t on the table it doesn’t really matter that much. Thank you for your work!

    Hello Nicolas.
I realy enjoyed watching the great 2cv model you created a long while back. Did you ever consider trying to get it created as an official Lego model? I think many 2cv fanatics would love it. Regards, Bert-Jan

    Bien cordialement

    Hello, I use the new pneumatic cylinder from the 8455 Backoe Loader ref part : 47224c03 But( any other pneumatic element is ok (the small one, or newest on mecerdes) if you modify the geometry of the motor. The 47224c01 is the most affordable in any case (from 5 to 10€/part);

  11. Tim Benson says:

    Hello Nico,

Your creations are fantastic. I just wonder what the Pistons that you use for your pneumatic engine are (part number)? Also will you be designing any more pneumatic engines in the future?

    Thank you very much,

Hello, you can go to the small mechanical loom page and check the paypal button to buy. Many Amercicans have purchased so no problem at all 🙂

  13. Navada says:

I am a teacher in elementary school and do a whole unit on weaving. When I found your loom I was blown away. My students would LOVE IT!! How can I buy the pdf? I am in the US and am unsure how to purchase.

  14. Nico71 says:

Sorry I have not more pictures on it.

  15. Nico71 says:

Hello, both are reliable, but the working of the loom is more nice and interesting to see in action. The working of the braiding machine is good too because everything rotate and turn, but the principle is more simple. The best is to build both ! Regards.

  16. Ray McNamara says:

    Hi Nico,

Can you please inform me to which is the most reliable out of the ‘Small Loom’ and the ‘Braiding Machine’?

I am considering building one of them to display at the ‘Brixhibition’ (brixhibition.com), and as I will have a number of Mindstorms Robots too keep watch on, I need reliability.

Nice site… I have found your site with googling LEGO GBC, because my son (5years old) is addicted watching LEGO GBC modules on YouTube. Are there any meetings in the near future to visit with my son. Or do you know à site where I can find some information about that. I can find only data from 2010. We’re from Holland so it would be nice to have some about Europe. Kindly regards, Sjantie Schoenmakers

I really love your work, lots of technical functions and great styling. And that using only 8 sets, just amazing.

In one of your older MOC you used led’s for the head-lights. Can you please show us the required wiring or added resistances in order to use the led with a standard 9V lego power box. Thanks.

  31. Mikel says:

    1) For your pneumatic engines what is your air source?
    (small compressor?, tank?)
    2) How do you hook up to the lego hose?
    3) How do you get your valves to move smoothly? (mine are stiff)

Thank you for taking the time to read my reply

  32. Aj says:

I wanted to know why you use the same driven steering system on multiple mocs, for example, on your trial 4×4 and your trial unimog the steering system is the same, you connect them to the chassis differently, but anyways i was just curios.
